1. Reading about Vanderkamp sure brings back memories. My family rented the house closest to Martin Rd. when I was 15 in 1958-’59. I wandered all over the upper part of the estate, all the way to the beaver pond, where I discovered the native brook trout in the early 70’s. Don May the caretaker, allowed me to fish there provided I told no one, or took no one with me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed down to the lake or around the main house, so I know little about that area. The dairy farm summered heifers and dry cows in the pasture across from the house we lived in. That was my first real experience close up with cows and although I was a bit afraid, I found them to be quite friendly, thus overcoming my fear.

  2. I accidentally came upon your site while doing some family history research. I know Vanderkamp well as I am Robert Soule’s granddaughter. I spent my childhood growing up there. The history done by Dorothy Milner, my mother’s cousin was just an absolute delight to read. I am Gracie’s daughter. My mother passed in 2003. My father, Neal, passed in 1996. Thank you so much for having this online so I could read it and print it. I will cherish it.
